Diann Bayes was our guest speaker this morning from the San Angelo Convention & Visitors Bureau.  Diann is the Vice President of the Convention and Visitors Bureau at the Chamber of Commerce here in San Angelo.  She comes to San Angelo from Austin with over 20 years of experience.  She spoke to us this morning about the importance of visitors to our community.
The definition of a Convention & Visitors Bureau reads like this:  “A CVB is a destination marketing organization that promotes a town, city, region or country in order to increase the number of visitors.  It promotes the development and marketing of a destination, focusing primarily on convention sales, tourism marketing, and services.”

The CVB is a destination marketing organization fully funded by hotel tax dollars.  Its
Mission is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of San Angelo through tourism, marketing and promotion.  SACVB works with hotels, attractions, retail, event planners, meeting & sports planners, group tour operators to bring in as many attractions as possible.

The San Angelo CVB has 5 goals:
  • Grow Hotel Occupancy by 5%
  • Communicate the need for wayfinding and connectivity
  • Brand awareness: Tell the Story of San Angelo
  • Expand the tourism base through a broader understanding and appreciation for the economic impact of the tourism industry
