Our guest speakers this morning were Candis Hicks & Kara Barner for Heritage Park Project Downtown San Angelo.
Heritage Park will be a downtown park located next to Flamingo Flatts on Oaks Street.  Because of its size it is referred to as a “pocket park”.  A “pocket park” is “is a small, welcoming site, typically in a downtown area that provides a respite for visitors and shoppers, including shade, seating and ambiance.”
The Park is a vision of the late J. Willis Johnson III when he saw a corner lot that was not being used and wanted to transform it into something unique only to San Angelo.  From his vision, a committee was formed, architects were consulted, and ranchers gave invaluable ideas for the Park.
The Park will have a signature water feature and a variety of Texas native plants.  There will be a sculpture feature that depicts a rancher aside his horse.  A vintage rain water capture system will also be featured to promote water conservation.  And there will be shading installed to protect visitors from the west Texas heat.
You can help with the construction of Heritage Park by buying an engraved brick to honor your family, business, or a loved one.  A 4” x 8” paver costs $500 (3 lines max with 14 characters and spaces per line) and a 8” x 8” paver costs $1,000 (6 lines max with 14 characters and spaces per line).
